Tile Source, Inc.

We are specialists in the supply of Victorian ceramic wall & floor tiles both genuine and simulated. We have had a lifetime involvement in the ceramic tile industry, both in manufacturing and sales. Our family began manufacturing pottery and tiles in early 19th Century Staffordshire, England.

The owners of Tile Source Inc are descended from 18th century potters from Staffordshire England. The family founded Edge Malkin & Co, Pottery Manufacturers in the 1850's, and Malkin Edge and Co, in 1865. As Malkin Tiles (Burslem) Ltd, it became a major influence in tile design and innovation for many years.

From an enquiry received in 1974 for the retiling of the floor of the Arts & Industries Building at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC, a small plant was started to produce Encaustic & Geometric tiles almost for the first time in the 20th century. David Malkin was responsible for spearheading this second revival of these tiles which were first made in the 13th century and revived for the first time by Herbert Minton in the 1820's.

Commissions received in the 1980's and 90's included the retiling of large parts of the US Capitol, the Palace of Westminster , the Pennsylvania Academy for the Fine Arts, the Parliament Building in Quebec City and many others including the Central Synagogue in NYC. Since 1997, Tile Source has supplied Encaustic and Geometric tiles for the Tweed Court House in New York City, many Court Houses in Texas and other parts of the USA, the State Capitol in Albany New York, the Saratoga Memorial, New York, The Bethesda Fountains in Central Park and many private homes.
