The 2009 Palladio Awards

The eighth annual Palladio Awards competition has recognized 11 architectural firms for outstanding achievement in traditional design for residential, commercial, institutional and public projects.

The Palladio Awards program is co-produced by Traditional Building and Period Homes magazines and is named in honor of Andrea Palladio, the Renaissance architect who created modern architecture for his time while drawing on past models for inspiration.

This year, the Palladio Awards program received 170 submissions from around the world. Each was scrutinized by an esteemed panel of four jurors. Residential projects were evaluated by Richard W. Cameron, partner with Ariel – The Art of Building, New York, NY; Stephen A. Mouzon, AIA, CNU, LEED, principal of the New Urban Guild, Miami Beach, FL; Sandra Vitzthum, AIA, principal of Sandra Vitzthum Architect, LLC, Montpelier, VT; and Dinyar Wadia, principal of Wadia Associates, New Canaan, CT.

Commercial, institutional and public projects were evaluated by Robert Baird, vice president of Historical Arts & Casting, West Jordan, UT; Mike Jackson, FAIA, chief architect of the Preservation Services Division, the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, Springfield, IL; Ralph T. Jackson, FAIA, principal with Shepley Bulfinch Richardson & Abbott, Boston, MA; and Elizabeth Corbin Murphy, FAIA, principal with Chambers, Murphy & Burge Restoration Architects, Ltd., Akron, OH.

The 2009 Palladio Awards were presented at a ceremony in Boston on Wednesday, March 11, as part of the Traditional Building Exhibition and Conference. The winners also presented their projects the following day at the conference. The projects will be published in the June issue of Traditional Building and the July issue of Period Homes.
